A video showing three suspected armed robbers using an unusual tactic to lure a resident out of his home before attacking him has sparked shock and concern on social media.

The footage, shared by Ghanaian blogs Public Eye and The State News, reportedly captures the men carrying out the operation at a residential property.

In the video, the suspects are seen entering a compound and turning on a water tap before retreating into a dark corner to hide.

The running water appears to be intended to attract the attention of someone inside the house and draw them outside.

When the unsuspecting resident eventually comes out to turn off the tap, one of the men is seen striking him on the head with a stick.

The suspects then reportedly force their way into the house to steal valuables, while the victim lies unconscious on the ground.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, as the video does not establish where or when the robbery occurred.

There is also no confirmed information about the victim’s condition or whether the suspects have been arrested. Some social media users have questioned whether the incident happened in Ghana.

The footage has nevertheless triggered reactions, with several users expressing shock at the apparent tactic and urging residents to remain vigilant, particularly at night.

Residents urged to exercise caution

The incident highlights the need for residents to exercise caution when responding to unusual noises or activity around their homes, especially during the night.

Burglars and armed robbers sometimes use distractions or tricks to lure occupants outside or create opportunities to gain access to their homes.

Residents are therefore encouraged to prioritise home security by ensuring that compounds are properly lit, doors and gates are secured, and suspicious activity is reported to the police.

Security experts also advise people to avoid opening their doors at night without first establishing who or what is outside.
