A journal belonging to the late Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian based in the United States who was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York, by three boys, has emerged following his death.

The handwritten notes, believed to have been written by Javits, offer a glimpse into his life, ambitions, journey from Ghana to the United States, and experiences since relocating. They also reveal how his family had cautioned him against associating with children they considered a bad influence.

In the journal shared by nydailynews.com, Javits described himself as a shy person who enjoyed reading books and exploring forests because of his love for nature.

“I was kinda intelligent because I liked to read books and explore the forest to see the beauty of nature,” portions of the journal read.

He also reflected on the differences he had observed between Ghana and the United States, particularly in their education systems.

According to Javits, teachers in Ghana often beat students during lessons, a practice he believed instilled fear and discouraged some pupils from expressing themselves in class. He contrasted this with his experiences in the United States.

Javits also wrote about his educational ambitions, expressing his desire to attain a high level of education.

“I want to go really far with education because you will earn money when you are being educated,” he wrote.

Another page of the journal showed him reflecting on his personal growth and trying to understand his identity.

He also observed that people could attract hatred when they began to succeed, with some attempting to undermine their progress.

"I'm doing good on my journey and figuring out who I am. I figured that when you start to win, people start to hate you, and they try to bring you down.

“Family are the people who help me when no one will even attempt to help me, and they are a treasure to me. We spend eating together, playing games together, and my family likes to have fun. The most important members of my family are my mother and dad. My family always motivate me that I shouldn't cooperate with the bad kids. My family are like treasure to me,” he added.

Javits’ killing has since sparked outrage over gun violence, with several people calling for justice for his family.

Meanwhile, police say they are still searching for the suspects, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old. The suspects were reportedly dressed in all-black joggers and hoodies and wore surgical masks.
