The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of Agartha, also known as Agartha Takyiwaa and nicknamed “1 Cedi”, a defender for Fabulous Ladies FC.

According to the club’s head coach, Nana Atuahene, the suspects were arrested in Techiman in the Bono East Region while allegedly attempting to flee from security personnel.

They were reportedly found in possession of Agartha’s tricycle and mobile phone, raising further questions about their possible involvement in her death.

The arrests are expected to assist investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the identity of the person who allegedly hired her services and the motive behind the attack.

Agartha reportedly combined her football career with commercial tricycle operations, popularly known as “pragya”, to earn a living.

Initial reports suggest that the young footballer was killed after accepting a request to transport a passenger. The person who reportedly hired her services is alleged to have attacked her with a knife, stabbing her and slitting her throat.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain disturbing, although the precise sequence of events and details of the alleged attack have yet to be officially established.

Coach Atuahene disclosed that the club was yet to formally inform the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the incident.

He also highlighted the financial difficulties facing women’s football in Ghana, citing limited financial support.

“Women’s football is still young in Ghana. Our players are registered as amateurs, not professionals, so we support them with only transportation costs,” he told Luve FM in an interview.
