The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has criticised the government for shifting its focus from the 24-hour economy programme to what he described as a new economy agenda.

In a video shared on his social media page on November 2, 2026, he said the government had moved from one slogan to another without adequately addressing economic concerns.

"We're hearing that he's talking about something called new economy. Now we are moving from an abandoned 24-hour economy to another new economy. We're waiting to listen to him about that," he said.

Boamah further indicated that the Minority would use the upcoming parliamentary session to raise concerns about issues affecting Ghanaians, including the cost of education, workers' salaries, road construction and illegal mining.

The 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme was a major campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The programme, they said, would boost domestic production, create jobs, reduce import reliance, and expand exports.

Key interventions include supporting year-round farming, agro-processing, manufacturing, logistics, and market access.

In February 2026, President Mahama assented to the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, establishing a body to coordinate implementation of the programme.
