Some men and women captured on camera engaging in prostitution and drugs
Residents of Community 1 in Tema have called on Mayor Ebi Bright and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to urgently address alleged prostitution, drug-related activities and growing insecurity around Oninku Street and the newly constructed Site 18 Junction.
The concerns were raised by a resident using the Facebook name Lilbit Naya Kowalski, who publicly tagged the mayor and the assembly in a post expressing frustration over what she described as the deteriorating state of the neighbourhood.
In the post, the resident accused some individuals, both locals and foreigners, of allegedly turning Oninku Street into a prostitution hub, claiming that the situation had persisted despite the knowledge of the local assembly member.
She further alleged that the assembly member had failed to act because he was receiving monthly payments from the trade. However, no evidence was provided to substantiate the allegation.
Expressing anger and disappointment over what she described as the authorities' silence, the resident called for immediate intervention to restore order in the area.
She made two specific demands: the closure of a house allegedly being used as a brothel and the shutdown of Sabrina Inn, which she believes is contributing to the problems in the community.
Beyond the alleged prostitution activities, the resident also raised concerns about the security situation around the newly constructed Site 18 Junction.
According to her, the area has increasingly become a gathering point for suspected miscreants and members of criminal gangs, who allegedly engage in the sale of various drugs and alcoholic beverages.
She lamented that residents were being left to deal with the situation without meaningful intervention from the relevant authorities.
She consequently appealed to the Greater Accra Regional Minister to intervene if the situation had become too difficult for the Tema Mayor and the Metropolitan Assembly to address.
She urged the authorities to investigate the allegations, take appropriate action against any wrongdoing and ensure that residents can go about their daily activities without fear or discomfort.
