The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cancelled the November 5 and 6 mid-term break for basic schools, directing teachers and pupils to report to school for normal academic activities on both days.
The decision, according to GES, is intended to recover instructional hours lost during the recent industrial action that disrupted academic activities in schools.
In a notice to the public, GES Management said the two-day break, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, November 5, and Friday, November 6, 2026, would no longer take place.
“Therefore, all basic schools are expected to open and conduct normal academic activities on Thursday, November 5, and Friday, November 6, 2026,” the notice stated.
The Service has consequently urged teachers, students, parents and guardians to take note of the change and make the necessary arrangements ahead of the affected dates.
GES further appealed to the public to cooperate with the directive, stressing the need for continued commitment to quality education as schools work to recover the teaching time lost during the industrial action.
The cancellation means basic school pupils who were expected to enjoy a two-day break will instead spend November 5 and 6 in the classroom.
