The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a robbery syndicate believed to have been targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.

The suspects, two Nigerian nationals and another accomplice, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation by an IGP’s Special Team on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

In a press statement dated November 3 2026, the police said the operation was carried out by personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.

“The operation led to the arrest of two Nigerian nationals, Aboy Promise, aged 30, and Favour Uwalaka, aged 45, at a hotel at Moshie Zongo,” the statement said.

A search of their rooms resulted in the recovery of GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key allegedly used to gain unauthorised access to victims’ vehicles.

The police said the suspects admitted their involvement during interrogation and mentioned two alleged accomplices, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the group monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew large sums of money and followed them before attacking them.

“The syndicate monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew substantial sums of money and trailed them before attacking and robbing them,” the statement said.

The suspects subsequently led the police team to another hotel at Dechemso, where Kingsley, 35, was arrested. However, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains on the run.

The police disclosed that the suspects admitted robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, October 27, after the victim had withdrawn money from Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also reportedly admitted to similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its environs.

The three arrested suspects have since been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.

The police have appealed to the public to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspect.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the police on 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.

The Command has also cautioned bank customers to remain vigilant around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or other valuables unattended in their vehicles.
