PassionAir has broken its silence following a frightening mid-air incident involving passengers, including Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin and former Bantama MP Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, on a flight from Kumasi to Accra.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the airline confirmed that its flight OP 149, which operated from Kumasi to Accra on Tuesday, November 3, encountered severe turbulence due to sudden adverse weather conditions.

The airline described the incident as a weather-related occurrence, acknowledging the discomfort and distress it may have caused passengers.

“While such weather-related occurrences are beyond our control and are generally considered unavoidable natural events, we recognise the discomfort and inconvenience this experience may have caused our valued passengers,” the statement said.

PassionAir also apologised to passengers who experienced distress during the flight, assuring the public that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain its highest priority.

The airline further stated that its flight operations are conducted in strict compliance with applicable aviation safety standards, regulations and requirements established by the relevant authorities.

The statement follows an account by Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who described the incident as a terrifying experience that left passengers fearing for their lives.

Speaking in an interview on Lawson TV on Wednesday, November 4, Dr Kokofu disclosed that the aircraft experienced what he described as a loud bang before appearing to plunge downwards in what he characterised as a free fall.

According to him, the incident occurred approximately three minutes after take-off, following a delay of about 30 minutes, which passengers were told was due to operational challenges.

He recounted that the sudden development triggered panic on board, with passengers crying, shouting and praying as they feared the aircraft might crash.

Dr Kokofu also disclosed that the aircraft was almost fully occupied, with only two vacant seats, and carried several prominent personalities, including Dr Frank Amoakohene and Lil Win.

Following the incident, the former Bantama legislator said he had instructed his office to file a formal complaint with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to facilitate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the flight.
