Some Black Stars players who featured during the October 2026 international break could be dropped from the squad for the November fixtures in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Following two defeats, the double-header against Somalia is crucial to Ghana’s qualification hopes. The results could determine the team’s fate, and the technical team is expected to make difficult selection decisions to ensure the strongest possible squad.

The following players could be omitted, although the technical team will have the final say.

Kwasi Sibo: Sibo could be at risk of being dropped following underwhelming performances in the two previous matches, which drew public criticism.

His ball control, aggression, interception ability and mobility in midfield appeared to decline, contributing to Ghana’s struggles.

Felix Afena-Gyan: The striker, who plays for Turkish side Iğdır FK, did not make a strong impression after being called up following the withdrawal of some key players.

Although he had limited playing time and mostly came on as a substitute, he did not meet expectations in front of goal.

Jerry Afriyie: Afriyie had limited minutes to showcase his potential during the October international break despite being called up.

The KRC Genk striker has been regarded as a potential solution to the team’s goalscoring problems, but his recent performances may not be enough to guarantee his place in the squad.

Alidu Seidu: Seidu withdrew from the squad due to injury, according to reports, but his place in the defence has also come under scrutiny following some underwhelming performances.

His recent form and injury situation could put his place in the next squad at risk.

Mohammed Fuseini: Fuseini had limited playing time during the previous international window, and his performances came under scrutiny.

His lack of minutes could make it difficult for him to secure a place in the next squad.

The list is based on the players’ performances during the previous international window and their club form. However, the interim Black Stars technical team will have the final say on squad selection.

The Black Stars will face Somalia in a double-header on Matchdays Three and Four as they seek to revive their qualification campaign following a disappointing start. Ghana lost their opening two matches, falling 2-0 to Ivory Coast in Bouaké before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The poor results led to head coach Carlos Queiroz’s resignation, prompting the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to begin searching for a new substantive manager.

Kim Lars Björkegren was appointed to lead the team, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram serving as assistant coaches. Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has also been appointed goalkeepers’ trainer.

The first match against Somalia is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, with the return fixture set for November 16.
