GES said that Ruby Teiko (pictured above) passed away in 2018
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed reports of the death of a student at Ghana National College.
According to the GES, the incident that is being circulated on social media platforms and news portals happened in 2018.
The clarification follows reports about the death of a first-year student identified as Ruby Teiko, who reportedly died after experiencing breathing difficulties during a dormitory inspection at the school's Elsie Dadzie Hall.
According to accounts shared online and attributed to the family, Ruby, who had a history of asthma, complained of difficulty breathing twice while the inspection was ongoing.
The family alleged that the housemistress on duty and another staff member asked her to wait until the inspection was over before receiving assistance.
She reportedly collapsed shortly afterwards and was rushed to the Cape Coast Government Hospital in a taxi, where she died.
However, in a Facebook post on November 5, 2026, GES said no student had died at the school recently and urged the public to disregard the reports.
Ghana National College student dies during dormitory inspection
“No student has passed away at Ghana National College. This particular reported demise occurred in 2018,” the Service stated.
GES also criticised those circulating the reports, accusing them of reopening the painful memories of the bereaved family and damaging the reputation of the school's teachers and housemistresses.
“The general public is therefore urged to disregard the disingenuous attempts by some faceless individuals to reopen the painful wounds of the bereaved family and unjustly besmirch the reputation of the teachers/house mistresses and the school,” the statement added.
