The Ministry of Health's Public Relations Officer, Tony Goodman, has disclosed that the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is expected to summon a nurse next week over a controversial TikTok livestream allegedly showing a pregnant woman in distress at a hospital.

In a Facebook post on Friday, October 6, 2026, Goodman said the Council was following up on the incident and was expected to invite the nurse for further engagement.

“The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is following up on the matter concerning this nurse. I am reliably informed that she is expected to be invited by the Council next week for further engagement,” he stated.

The incident has sparked public concern over patient privacy, professional ethics and the appropriate conduct of healthcare workers, particularly when dealing with vulnerable patients.

The controversy emerged after a Facebook user, Dickson Assan, reported the incident to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), explaining that he had come across the nurse's TikTok livestream in the early hours of the day.

According to Assan, the livestream featured a pregnant woman who appeared to be in severe distress while receiving care at the hospital.

He alleged that the person hosting the livestream, who appeared to be a nurse, was seen rubbing the woman's back, apparently in an attempt to comfort her, while broadcasting the situation to viewers on TikTok.

However, the livestream reportedly attracted inappropriate comments and mockery from some viewers, who made remarks about the nurse's actions towards the distressed patient.

Assan further claimed that when one viewer questioned the appropriateness of broadcasting a vulnerable patient's condition, other participants responded with insults rather than addressing the concerns raised.

Adding to the controversy, he alleged that the nurse displayed a Mobile Money (MoMo) number during the livestream and solicited financial contributions from viewers while the pregnant woman remained in distress.

The Facebook user expressed concern about the conduct of a healthcare professional who, instead of prioritising the patient's privacy and dignity, allegedly exposed her vulnerable condition to a social media audience.
