Victor Smith is Ghana's Ambassador to the United States
Ghana's Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, has expressed concern about the killing of Ghanaians in the US, revealing that five nationals have died under different circumstances since he assumed office.
He said most of the deaths were gun-related, adding that the embassy had formally communicated Ghana's concerns to the US authorities.
"In total, five people have died since I became the US Ambassador in different circumstances; most of them are gun-related. I have issued a statement expressing our unhappiness about what is happening; we cannot accuse the US government of not doing enough, but we need to protest that Ghanaians are unhappy," he said.
Speaking on TV3's Key Points on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Smith urged Ghanaians in the US to be mindful of their safety.

"People need to be careful about where they go and where they live and everything. Just be careful. I guess that's the only advice I can give at this point in time, because I don't know where everybody lives in America," he stated.
Victor Smith also disclosed that he had written to the US State Department over the murder of Ghanaian teenager Jarvis Owusu, expressing Ghana's concern and seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding his death.
He said the authorities must establish whether the reported bullying at the school was connected to the teenager's murder, adding that the school should cooperate with the New York Police Department's investigation.
Meanwhile, Ghanaians living in the United States have been urged to exercise caution about where they live and the places they visit following the deaths of several Ghanaian nationals in the country.
