Africa World Airlines (AWA) has denied reports that one of its aircraft developed a technical problem at Kumasi Airport, resulting in the evacuation of passengers.
The airline described the reports circulating on social media as false, insisting that no such incident had occurred.
In a press statement issued on November 7, 2026, AWA explained that the aircraft at the centre of the reports was its Embraer E190, which began demonstration flights on November 5, 2026.
According to the airline, the flights were part of a regulatory requirement by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) that must be completed before the aircraft can operate scheduled commercial services.
AWA clarified that only flight crew and GCAA inspectors were on board during the demonstration flights.
It stressed that there were no passengers on board and, therefore, no passenger evacuation took place.
“Demonstration flights are a standard part of introducing a new aircraft type into service, and are conducted under GCAA oversight to confirm operational readiness and safety,” the statement said.

The airline urged the public and the media to disregard the graphic circulating on social media and rely on its official communication channels for accurate information about its operations.
AWA also warned that it reserved the right to take appropriate action against individuals who knowingly spread false information.
