New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy Director of Communications, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, Esq, has bemoaned Ghana’s rising cost of living, stating that current economic conditions have made it increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens to afford basic meals.

The private legal practitioner said the cost of food has become so burdensome that even GH₵20 is no longer enough to buy a meal of kenkey and fish.

“What is happening in this country? You can’t even use GH₵20 to buy kenkey and fish anymore. Let’s be honest with ourselves, the system is too hard, and it is making me sick,” he said on Accra-based Asempa FM

He further lamented the difficulty many households face in securing three meals a day, arguing that the financial pressure on citizens should not be overlooked.

“It takes the grace of God to get three square meals in this country. Things are hard. GH₵20 cannot get you anything,” he stated.

Botchway also questioned the government’s emphasis on stable inflation, suggesting that such economic indicators do not adequately reflect the daily financial struggles of ordinary Ghanaians.

He argued that discussions of economic stability should also consider the actual cost of food and households’ ability to afford necessities.
