To Get Konadu To Step Down
As it becomes abundantly clear that every mediation efforts have failed, members of the governing National Democratic Congress who are opposed to the decision of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to contest the sitting President, Prof Mills for the flagbearership position have resorted to fasting and prayers to get her to rescind her decision.
The NDC’s National Women’s Organiser who disclosed this on the Big Bite on Xfm 95.1, Monday, 16 May 2011, said she and some friends have already started the process.
“We have group of friends who are fasting, because the party is dear to our heart. I also do fast at times, because it is my heart desire that my mother will step down so that our enemy will be ashamed,” Madam De Souza said.
The race to the July 8-10 Congress of the NDC has been anything but smooth. Even before the contest will begin in full gear, there have been allegations of bribery and intimidation of party delegates who are perceived to support Mrs. Rawlings.
There also have been calls from some quarters on Mrs Rawlings to pull out of the contest, even though a member of her campaign team, Hon Teye Nyaunu has indicated on several occasions that Mrs Rawlings is unperturbed.
But Madam Anita De Souza, is pleading with people who have the party at heart to join her in fasting and praying. She said she feels hurt at heart “when people are insulting her (Nana Konadu)”, hence her need to resort to prayers to get her to back down.
Madam De Souza who also revealed that some influential people in society have consulted Mrs Rawlings in getting her to change her mind, said she remained hopeful their prayers would be answered.
“So it is my prayer, not only me, but the NDC party, that my mother will say that ‘no, I am not contesting, for the sake of my children’. No matter what we have done to her, she will still step down; that is my prayer. I am not forcing her, but if it comes to pass, hallelujah to that”.
However, a member of the Konadu for President 2012 Campaign Team, Hon Teye Nyaunu has described this as laughable, saying their prayers would not work.
He said Mrs Rawlings is also getting spiritual support for her to stay in the contest and win. He said the resort to prayers came in late because Mrs Rawlings has also been to church to make sure she wins.
“Yesterday (Sunday), we were at Action Chapel, and it was very interesting. We had a lot of supporters there, it was a wonderful sermon. This fabrication came in at the wrong time because just yesterday we were also at work, seeking God’s peace to make sure that she would go through…So it would not work, theirs would not work; I do not know what God they would be contacting, but I can say that we are seeking the face of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we believe that she can go to win”.
