This showed the understanding of the exercise after the introduction within 10 and this performance compares favorably with recent Mobile Number Portability (MNP) implementations in other countries, where porting a mobile number could take up to seven days.

The analysis was contained in a statement from the NCA to indicate how fast the exercise was in Ghana as compared to other countries.

The NCA said the fastest port recorded so far in Ghana took place in a mere 1 minute, 31 seconds with the average porting time for the first 10n days being 4 hours, 17 minutes.

“Ghana mobile phone subscribers are reminded that when they sign the porting request form and send the validation text message, they are moving their number from their current mobile service provider to a new one. They are closing their account at the old network, and when the porting is completed, they will no longer be using the old SIM” it said.

NCA said they were pleased with the public response to MNP so far but assured of monitoring the process to ensure that rules were followed and that the process was serving the public interest as intended.

It stated that with MNP was entitled to move from one network to another without changing the number but losses the contract with the previous network.
