Koforidua, Sept. 03, GNA - Mr John Benford Torto, a retired staff of the Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), has called for the restructuring of the service into a semi-autonomous institution to enable it generate revenue and improve its services to farmers.

He said when given the resources, the Veterinary Service could do more to help improve upon animal production.

Mr Torto was speaking at a send-off party organized for him on Thursday.

He said many small-scale animal producers were collapsing because of the high cost of inputs and said the situation was not the best and could be reversed if more emphasis was placed on animal production and farmers supported.

The Eastern Regional Director of the Veterinary Service, Mr Kwaku Duah, described Mr Torto as hard working and dedicated staff who devoted all his efforts to the service.
