MFANTSEMAN WARNS GHANAIANS
The visit of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party to the Mfantseman district of the Central Region revealed a litany of problems facing the people in the district as the clarion call of residents in the district was for Ghanaians not to return the son of their land to power in 2012.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s visit to the area where President Mills hails from can best be summed up in the scream of a woman at the market who shouted "Adzi Mba Fie" meaning nothing good has come home since Mills moved to the Castle.
The youth in the constituency stated they feel embarrassed to admit that Mills hails from there. "We felt very proud when Atta Mills won. Now our man has also gotten there. But our pride soon turned into disgust and shame," said Paul, who described himself as an unemployed mason.
John, 22, added, "The mistakes, the lies, the dishonesty are all too much for us. Not only has he disappointed those of us from here; I even want to change my name", he said sarcastically. A market woman, Esi, said to cheers from the crowd when she shouted, "We shall show Uncle Atta where power lies. We can't take for more wasted years of this. It will be double trouble!"
Nana Addo is currently embarking on the second phase of his listening campaign tour of the Central Region.
Later yesterday, the Central regional capital of Cape Coast and its environs were taken over by colours and paraphernalia of the New Patriotic Party as its flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo continued with his tour of the region.
Scores of people mobbed him through the principal streets of Cape Coast when he took his listening tour to Ankaful, Abura, Siwdo, Kotokoraba, Tantri and Ntsin.
At the Ankaful community centre, George, 33, lamented lack of jobs for the youth, collapsed poultry and rising hardships as some of the problems confronting residents.
Robert, a 52 year old taxi driver at the Abura taxi station said "Nana the Central region needs the NPP back.
A vote for one of our own proved to be a disaster because his government has brought untold hardships on us."
Nana Addo also visited artisans at the Siwdo spare parts and garage (kokompe).
Uncle Fii, Samuel, Oppong and Isaac, took turns to speak about the problems facing them in their work.
They mentioned LPG shortage, lack of loan facilities, and lack of a public place of convenience as some of their issues that required government’s attention.
They said they have voted blindly for the NDC over the years but it is obvious the NPP is the party that can make their lives better.
Nana Addo also toured Kotokoraba with visits to the market and lorry station where residents assured him of their hard work and support to make sure the NPP returns to power in 2012.
Nana Addo also met with fishermen at Ntsin to interact with them and also find out what the problems of the industry are.
Nana Kofi Egyiri outlined some of the problems facing them, notable amongst them being the ever increasing price of outboard motors, shortage of premix fuel, pair trawling and light fishing.
The atmosphere was charged at Mankessim on Wednesday when Nana Addo stormed there to start his tour of the Mfantseman West constituency.
At the main Mankessim market, traders and market women abandoned their wares to follow the NPP flagbearer, complaining mainly about their inability to pay their children's school fees, collapsing NHIS, high cost of living and slow rate of business.
Nana Addo was devastated to see that the market was surrounded by a refuse dump, a public toilet and stagnant water.
Aunty Esi, a market queen said "Nana you have seen for yourself the filth we sit in to sell. We have complained to the Municipal Assembly severally but nothing is being done about it."
Nana Addo's tour of the Mfantseman West constituency also took him to communities such as Saltpond, Anomabo, Ankaful, Abandze and Biriwa.
