Sulley Muntari insists the Black Stars have the wherewithal to end the trophy drought at next year’s Nations Cup finals.

Ghana open their campaign against minnows Botswana before playing neighbours Mali and Guinea in Group D for the biannual showpiece.

The Group could be tricky for the 2010 Fifa World Cup quarter-finalists considering the pedigrees of their opponents.

The Inter Milan star man, who will is expected to feature prominently in Goran Stevanovic’s squad at the tournament, remains adamant about the country’s chances.

“With our pedigree on the continent, surely a lot will be expected of us in the tournament. I have said before that we’re determined to go a step further in 2012,” Muntari said

“We respect our opponents in the group but the truth of the matter is that we’re also going to guard against complacency and tackle each game with total seriousness.

“We have a fantastic manager and a great team which is very compact and so we’ll do our best. I believe we’re capable of writing our names in the history books.”

Ghana were losing finalists at the 2010 Africa Cup Nations in Angola.
