The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) is alerting the general public of the invasion of the market of a FAKE, UNREGISTERED and SUBSTANDARD brand of condoms – PREVENTIVE PLUS DOTTED.

The fake, unregistered and substandard Preventive Plus Dotted Condom was imported by Orackie Enterprise, Kumasi and had no manufacturer’s name or address though information on the packaging indicated that the product was manufactured in China.

According to Dr. Stephen Opuni, Chief Executive Officer of the FDB, “the said PREVENTIVE PLUS DOTTED Condom did not meet the acceptable standard when tested at the laboratory and therefore its safety cannot be guaranteed by the FDB”.

Dr. Opuni in a press release to The Herald, advised the public “to desist from using the unregistered and substandard PREVENTIVE PLUS DOTTED Condom since the use of unsafe condoms could lead to contraction of sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS”.

“The general public is further advised to report to the nearest FDB Office anyone found stocking, distributing or retailing the unregistered and substandard PREVENTIVE PLUS DOTTED Condoms,” said Mr. Opuni.

“Dr. Opuni urged all Pharmacies, Licensed Chemical Shops, Supermarkets and all other outlets having in stock the said PREVENTIVE PLUS DOTTED Condom should kindly return them to the supplier or the nearest FDB office”.

According to him, the FDB had meanwhile quarantined a consignment of the said PREVENTIVE PLUS DOTTED condom pending further investigations.

He assured the general public “of the Board’s readiness in ensuring their health and safety at all times”.

Additionally said Dr. Opuni, information from the general public on persons suspected to be in any practice possible of endangering public health and safety with respect to FDB’s mandate is most welcomed through any of the following contact numbers; 0244337235, 0244337252, 0246809509 or 0208204968”.
