Zita Okaikoi, defeated candidate at the just ended NDC primaries in Dome-Kwabenya has accused her opponent of influencing votes in her favour by bribing delegates prior to the primaries.
Zita also mentioned her intention to legally disqualify Sophia Akuako on the basis that she is not resident in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, the constituency whose primary she (Sophia) won over the weekend.
Mrs. Zita Okaikoi who spoke on a private radio station based in Accra said she was yet to make up her mind as to whether she was going to rally behind Sophia Akuako to champion the agenda of the party in the constituency.
Zita who was clearly not happy about her loss over the weekend pointed fingers at Sophia Akuako accusing her of bribing delegates with 300 cedis; a move she says influenced the results of the day's voting.
Meanwhile, Sophia Akuako who emerged victor has chided Zita on her allegations saying she should be mature and accept defeat instead of pointing accusing fingers at her.
She expressed shock at Zita's accussation that she had bribed delegates since she (Zita) had given some money to delegates long before the primaries; an accusation Zita says was false since she only gave some women money as loan and not as bribe.
She intimated that Zita's claim that her not living in the constituency should have disqualified her from the primaries is a surprise since she (Zita) also resides outside Dome- Kwabenya with her husband.
The new NDC candidate for the Dome- Kwabenya constituency said the National executives in their own wisdom did not disqualify her even though they had been petitioned to do so by Zita adding that she won because she had worked hard for it.
Sophia Akuako polled 100 votes over Zita's 87 votes to emerge winner of the Dome-Kwabenya constituency as the NDC candidtate for the area.
She will come against the NPP's candidate Adwoa Safo in the 2012 general elections.
