47 babies from three hospitals in Accra delivered on Christmas

Accra, Dec. 26, GNA-Forty-seven babies were delivered in three hospitals in the Greater Accra Region on Christmas day.

The deliveries took place at Ashongman Estates Community, Ridge and Korle Bu Teaching Hospitals. The new borns who numbered 28 females and 19 males were delivered through normal deliveries while 10 caesarian sessions were performed.

Ashongman Estates recorded nine females, five females with two caesarean sessions and three normal deliveries.

Ms Dora Donkor, Principal Nursing Officer of the Hospital told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Accra on Monday that both the babies and their mothers were healthy and doing well.

She said the maternity ward of the hospital which has 60 beds on normal days delivers between three and six pregnant women.

Ms Donkor called on the public to patronize the services of the hospital, which also operated the National Health Insurance Scheme and had doctors available on 24 hour basis.

She indicated that the Hospital had a state-of- the-art facility and provided services including maternity care, instant laboratory results, dentistry, theatre services, pediatric and also offers baby friendly services and immunizations.

At the Ridge Hospital, Ms Susana Asamoah, Senior Nursing Officer, said 14 babies were delivered between 12 midnight and 12 noon.

She explained that nine of the deliveries were female and five males, with eight caesarean sessions and six normal deliveries.

Madam Gladys Adu-Nyame, Matron and Principal Nursing Officer, Obstetrics and Gynecology in charge of the Maternity block of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital said the ward recorded 28 births made up of 16 females and 12 males on December on Christmas Day.

She said in all, new babies born on 24th December and 25th December were 46.

Efforts to get data for Boxing Day proved futile because hospitals were yet to compile their data.
