Former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Yaw Osafo Maafo, has rubbished reports that he scaled over his residential wall and fled away last Friday when he learnt that security operatives were after him for his supposed involvement in the infamous GHc58million Woyome scandal.
Mr. Osafo Maafo, who was Sports Minister at the time the contract for the construction of stadia for CAN 2008 was awarded, was emphatic that he had not received any invite from the Police Service after the submission of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) report to President John Evans Atta Mills last Thursday.
In an interview with Peace Fm's Kwami Sefa-Kayi on the " Kokrokoo " programme Monday morning, the former minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration said if for anything at all, he should rather be charged with causing financial GAIN for the state.
The one-time NPP presidential aspirant, who said he will respond to any official invite from the police because he has nothing to hide, however, added a caveat; ‘so far as they are going by the law’.
“I have heard people claim that I was invited for questioning but I showed I clean pair of heels…I am even anxious to be called by the BNI or the police so that I can go and say what I know; then the truth will be told. If I am called by the police I will be very happy but no security agency has called me…I am not afraid to go to the police or EOCO but the laws of the land needs to be adhered to......considering that I was able to negotiate a contract sum of 67 million to 38.5m; I don’t have to be charged of causing financial lose, I need to be charged with causing financial gain for saving such an amount for government. I have not been called by the security agencies but I know they will call especially since my name has been mentioned in the EOCO report…” Osafo Marfo said.
