*AGENDA 2012 CLUB DOCUMENT; AFAG WARNS GOVERNMENT & NDC*
The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is shocked at the revelation
of the NDC agenda 2012 document, which according to its Authors, seeks
among others to shut AFAG and entice its leadership.
According to the work of Afful, Kontor and Quartey (no date);”*Starting
from January 2012, there should be strict monitoring of all the activities
of the pressure group especially AFAG, trades union and other social
groupings. They should not be allowed to embark on any form of activity or
whatsoever program that will make NDC government unpopular. It should be
limited to the barest minimum” (p.4)*
Additionally, the document among others, recommended that:
· *“The leadership of such groupings should be enticed with goodies
that will prevent them from taking such actions. Floating voting are easily
swayed by such press conferences, demonstration, etc”(p.5)*
· *“ Locate such threats and calm them as early as possible”(p.5)*
· *“Counter groups should be created as early as possible to debunk
actions of opposing groups”(p.5)*
· *“Make claims of civic groups look partisan especially when it
goes against the government”(p.5)*

AFAG wishes to communicate in clear terms to the government, and the larger
NDC that, on no occasion had we sought to undermine the authority of
government. We have however been fearless in our quest to promote the
interest of the good people of Ghana or provide a critique on any issue of
national interest. It will therefore be considerate, and constructive on
the part of the NDC and its government to engage itself in providing
answers to the several unanswered issues of public interest, raised by AFAG
other than focusing on how to entice AFAG.
We would like to re-assure the general public that, AFAG shall never and on
no day relent on its efforts at promoting the collective interest of
Ghanaians. We shall continue to advocate for accountable and transparent
governance in Ghana without inducement or commitment to any particular
group of people, other than the good people of Ghana.* We can therefore
assure the NDC party, Government, and the NDC’s strategic allies that, the
leadership of AFAG is a solid one, we have never been induced by any
individual or group, we cannot be enticed to sell out our conscience, our
individual credibility’s are not for sale, and above all, any attempt to
tread on the path of the agenda 2012 document recommendations will not wash.
