A retired medical doctor, Dr. Emmanuel Darko, 67, died when a Saloon car he was driving veered off the Maye Hot Junction road around Madina in Accra and hit a 45-year-old pedestrian.
Dr. Darko was pronounced dead when he was rushed to nearby Legon Hospital, whilst the unidentified woman who sustained injuries was admitted.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Charles Ahiamale, Deputy Madina Motor, Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service told the Ghana News Agency on Monday that, the body of the medical officer has been deposited in the Police Hospital morgue in Accra awaiting autopsy.
He said it was suspected that Dr. Darko was using a mobile phone when the accident occurred and therefore warned drivers against the act.
ASP Ahiamale said the MTTU would arrest and prosecute offenders.**
