Members of Parliament have raised concerns over the cutting of their emoluments as stated by the President last week.

MP for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu in an interview with XYZ News said since the executive deems it fit to cut down their emolument he sees nothing wrong with the legislature doing same to them.

According to Hon. Teye Nyaunu, although what they receive from parliament is not satisfactory, constituency members expect so much from MPs and end up using their little money from parliament to attend to such responsibilities.

“We do that of the executive and the executive arm does that of the legislature, so if they deem it fit to cut ours down then it will be very appropriate that we do same to them.

“When you become a Member of Parliament, the demands on you from your constituents are huge. Some will attribute it to promises, they voted for you so they look forward to get something from you” Teye Nyaunu said.

Hon. Teye Nyaunu added that MPs need money for a lot of projects and cutting their emoluments at this crucial time is not the best thing to do.

“Our offices, our cars that is what we have and you want people to do a job for you, you have to go and look for some money from the little money that we are being paid”.**
