Lawyers of businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome have rejected another request for their client to go before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The lawyers say the subject matter which the PAC wants to interrogate their client on is already pending before the High Court (Criminal Division), High Court (Commercial–Civil), Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court for adjudication and or determination, and that it will be prejudicial.
Mr. Woyome is facing charges of fraud and causing financial loss to the state in relation to the payment of some 51 million Ghana cedis in judgement debts to him by the state.
It will be recalled that last month, Mr. Woyome’s lawyers refused to allow their client to face the PAC with the same reasons.
On the 16th of August, the PAC wrote again to Mr. Woyome requesting his presence at the PAC on the payment of judgement debt by the government.
The lawyers in a reply to the PAC said “much as we do not doubt your constitutional mandate under Article 187(5)(6) of the 1992 Constitution, we do not think those clauses give you the right to raise questions or discuss matters which are currently pending before all the Superior Courts such as this instant one, for adjudication.”
