This year’s National United Nations World Tourism day celebration is set to come off on the September 27 in Akosombo.
This year’s theme for the celebrations is ‘’Tourism & Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development’’. This year’s theme aims to highlight tourism’s role in a brighter energy future; a future in which the world’s entire population has access to modern, efficient and affordable energy services The tourism day celebrations is a date set aside by the UNWTO to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
The Ministry of Tourism in conformity with the theme is partnering the Ministry of Energy, Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to celebrate this year’s event.
Series of events such as the ambassadorial tour to tourist sites in the Eastern region will precede the event on September 22. Regional directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority is expected to mark the day with series of programs in their regions.
The 2011 edition of the national celebrations was marked at Tafi Atome in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta region.
