Hohoe defies curfew to form queues to vote

Prospective voters in Hohoe have defied the state of emergency imposed on the area stemming from a disturbance between the indigenous Gbis and the settler Zongo community, to join queues to exercise their franchise in Friday’s general election.

The curfew hours in Hohoe and its environs are from 12.00 midnight to 0500 hours.

However, as early as 0200 hours, voters had formed queues in readiness to cast their ballot when the GNA visited some of the polling centres in Hohoe.

At the E. P Schools ‘A’ and ‘B’ Centres, scores of voters numbering between 800 and1,000 were waiting for the commencement of the exercise at 0700 hours. Ms Evelyn Agboado said she got up early to cast her ballot in order to ply her trade unimpeded.

The situation is similar to those at Zion Segbedeme and Locost centres which had between 100 and 150 prospective voters in queues.

Queues at Zongo Central Mosque, Teresco and Franco centres began soon after 0500 hours.

Voting would take place at 125 polling stations in the Hohoe North Constituency with 39 being those in the Hohoe township alone.

A total of 67,615 voters are expected to cast their ballots.
