Mampong student nurses sue Principal over exams

Students of the Mampong Midwifery School in the Ashanti Region have sued the Principal of the school for refusing them the opportunity to re-write some papers slated for March this year.

The students, who sat for their final exams last year in August, claim their principal had informed them she would not let them re-write their referral papers because they did not pay fees for one full academic year.

Some of the students who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity stated that though the Principal had registered them, she had refused to allow them to stay on campus and also prevented the tutors from teaching them.

“Our Principal is unfaithful because she wants to collect some money from us” they alleged.

The nurses also claim the Principal's behaviour stems from their decision to pay an amount of GHC 900 to the Ministry of Health, instead of paying to her as registration fee.

“She has also asked us to pay for tuition just like the fresh intakes when we are not being given accommodation,” one student lamented.

Collins Appiah, a consultant for the students, who confirmed the situation to Citi News, said the nurses had been to the Ministry of Health to seek assistance.

“We were called from the Ministry that the students should go to the school to register,” he narrated, that the principal had then refused to grant the students accommodation on campus.

“After registration they have to be in the school to learn. The woman is saying that she will not give them any accommodation and they can’t use any facility in the school either. Meanwhile the students have paid for facility user fee” he added.

The Principal of the school, Lydia Yamoah has meanwhile been given a one week ultimatum to respond to the writ.
