Government's attention has been drawn to media reports about a cargo plane allegedly detained in Turkey and carrying gold from Ghana destined for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana wishes to inform the Ghanaian public that this Government has not engaged in any transaction with Iran that requires the discharge of any "financial commitments" to that country in gold.

Further, this Government has not authorized or been involved in any gold shipment to Iran in fulfillment of any such financial commitments.

Government has launched an investigation into the media reports to determine the veracity of the allegations and would communicate with the public on any findings made.

His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama wishes to affirm to the people of Ghana his unwavering commitment to leading a government that is transparent and abides by the rule of law.
