Akotosu-Dadease (Ashanti Region), 27 Oct., Two communities in the Sekyere East District have appealed to the assembly for assistance to sink boreholes to solve their water problem. The communities, Akotosu and Akwasua-Nkwanta near Kumawu, made the appeal at separate meetings with the District Chief Executive who was on tour of the area. They also called for the extension of electricity to the area for the establishment of cottage industries. At Akotosu the chief, Nana Amankwah Adiyiah the third, told the DCE, Mr. Kwame de-Graft Agyei that their only source of water is contaminated and said ''the only way out is the sinking of boreholes''. He said the people have deposited 500,000 cedis for the well and called on the assembly for assistance. At Akwasua-Nkwanta, the vice-chairman of the Village Development Committee, Mr. Kwame Sarfo Tabi said the people are paying a levy of 10,000 cedis a man and 6,000 cedis a woman towards an electrification project, adding that 600,000 cedis has so far been collected. The DCE assured the communities that those who put in maximum effort to enhance their living standards will be assisted. He announced that Bomeng, Akrofoso and Sekyere will be linked to the national electricity grid by December, this year.
