5th Anniversary Of Omanhene Of New Juabeng Traditional Area

A durbar has been held at Koforidua to climax the 5th Anniversary Celebration of the enstoolment of the Omanhene of New Juaben, Daasebre Dr.. Oti Boateng, the Government Statistician. The durbar also marked the launching of the Akwantukesee Festival of the Traditional Area. The theme for the celebration was "Development in Unity for the welfare of the people. Daasebre (Dr..) Oti Boateng said the Akwantukesee Festival aims at strengthening unity among the chiefs and people of the Traditional Area and to mobilize the people to undertake more development projects. The festival will also be used as a forum to educate the people, especially the youth, on their origins, migration, tradition and customs of the people of New Juaben, to reinforce the unity between citizens of New Juaben and Ashanti. A message from the President, Flt. Lt. Rawlings, to the people on the occasion, was read by the Chairman of the Council of State, Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia. He mentioned a number of development projects implemented or being implemented by the government in the area to prove that the government is development conscious. President Rawlings stressed the need for all citizens, irrespective of their political persuasions, to support the government's determination to bring development to the doorsteps of the people. He announced that measures have been initiated to improve the water supply system in New Juaben until a long-term solution is found.
