Indiscipline amongst the youth need to be checked - Okyenhene

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, has expressed worry about the current spate of indiscipline among the youth in the country.

He appealed to parents to spend some time in observing and training their children in order to strengthen control over them and make them responsible adults for the nation.

The Okyenhene, who said religious bodies and all other stakeholders had a crucial role to play in the shaping the country’s future leaders, was speaking at the fourth Presbytery Durbar at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of Ghana over the week-end at Kyebi.

He said the negative conduct of the youth of the present generation was very appalling and that if parents and stakeholders neglect their responsibility of training the young ones, it would render the nation a future of under development and discomfort.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin said many youth using dubious short cuts to become affluent in the society often engaged in the abuse of drugs, immoral lifestyles and other social vices that were a huge burden to the society.

He urged school authorities to be extra vigilant on their students, especially those in the boarding houses, to ensure that they do not become liabilities instead of assets to the nation.

On his part, Reverend Paul Kwabena Dekyem, the out-going Presbytery Chairperson, urged Christians to use their God-given abilities to serve judiciously for the development of the nation, entreating them to always read and practice God’s directives from the Bible.

The Abuakwa Presbytery, as part of their social responsibility duty to fight the perennial water shortage in the area raised funds which yielded GH¢18,731.00 to start a water project for the residents.

Rev Emmanuel Kwasi Adjapong, the out-going Clerk of the Presbytery, gave the assurance that the project would be completed by September.
