Taifa residents to bury their dead

The Taifa Community in Accra is preparing to bury the four neighbourhood watch committee members who were killed by a security patrol team in an apparent case of mistaken identity. The community has made arrangements for a joint burial on Saturday.

The four men were shot and killed by a joint police-military task force whiles on their way to rescue a woman who had made a distress call about an armed robbery in June. The Committee, which was set up to investigate the shooting presented its findings to the government.

But the contents of the report have not been made public, raising suspicions about possible attempts at a cover up. Indeed, the chairman of the Commission, Prof. Ivan Addae-Mensah of the University of Ghana, told reporters that if they want to know about the contents of the report, they should forget it.

This remark was made when the committee was presenting its report to the acting Interior Minister. Now the families of the four victims are preparing to bury their dead without knowing justice will be served.
