General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, says he will not apologise to President John Mahama for describing as “irresponsible” and “reckless”, the President’s comments that the Supreme Court will affirm his presidency after the election petition hearing.

The president told supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress on Monday that he believed he won the 2012 elections “cleanly” and “fairly” despite claims of rigging by the NPP for which reason the party is challenging the results in Court.

His comments attracted sharp criticism from the NPP which issued a strongly-worded statement against the president’s “prejudicial” comments.

Information Minister Mahama Ayariga has demanded that Mr. Owusu Afriyie withdraws the description of the president as “irresponsible” and “reckless”.

However, the NPP General Secretary says he will not budge.

“No, I will not,” he told XYZ Breakfast Show host, Moro Awudu, on Wednesday when asked if he was ready to apologise for using those words to condemn the president.

He insisted that: “The statements are reckless, they are irresponsible and we maintain that,” stressing that: “I will not [apologise]”.
