Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, says the ongoing election petition trial poses some “challenges” to the country’s democracy and stability.

He has, therefore, called on Muslims in the country to use the holy month of Ramadan to pray to God to sustain the peace that exists in the country regardless of which verdict is delivered by the Supreme Court as far as the election petition trial is concerned.

According to President Mahama, although the nation appears to be challenged with the ongoing trial at the court, he is confident that prayers can maintain the current tranquility that is being enjoyed in the country.

The president made the remarks when the Muslim caucus in Parliament paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House on Friday.

He said: “We hope that the fact that the holy month of Ramadan has coincided with some challenging political development in our country, would ensure that Ghana continues to remain a peaceful and prosperous nation”.
