Thank you for this. It is amazing how people of supposedly-sound minds can oppose this project. Tullow is too busy with a much more lucrative oil business to be interested in acquiring our shipyard-a facility with potential but history of poor management. They simply want to use it to build an FPSO. It would be a win-win situation for Ghana and Tullow. It is a great pity some people cannot see it, but must oppose whatever Govt initiates. What are the true motives of such people?

What do you understand by a refitting of a Shipyard.
Do you know what goes into refitting a mechanic shop?
Compare that to refitting a whole shipyard. Do you know the capital investment, that will go in?
Do you think it is just bringing in some mobile equipment to do the job, and then after that towing it away?
Some people don't think beyond the present time. What they want, is to get it now. Tomorrow can take care of itself.
Tema Shipyard was one of the best facilities in Africa. Only government interference has made it so.
With proper planning and management, Tema Shipyard can once again stand out.
We should not just think of the immediate benefit that can be got from Tullow, and sell our heritage.
et us think strategically, and think beyond the present time.

Mr. Bold, or whoever you are, YOU ARE BOLD IN YOUR IGNORANCE.
What you are saying, is like saying that you cannot build a house alone, so you are letting somebody who want to stay in your town, come build a house on your land and stay in it for two years or for the period h wants to stay in the town.
After that what next??? Does the house automatically belong to you?? Does he pull it down??? What next???
Like you say,
"Even America is built no brains from different parts of the world."
You are talking of knowledge, the sense of knowing how to do things, the sense of knowing how to think through complex and difficult problems and coming up with workable solutions.
That is why we have to bring in people who can help us restructure the company to make it viable, and not just to take the easy and cheap way out, by selling our assets.
Tema Shipyard used to be one of the best in Africa, let me remind you.
falling on hard times today, does not mean we must quickly get rid of it.
When was the last time they built a ship? -- The fact that you have not painted your house in a very long time, does not mean you must sell it. (That is my answer)

I think this servile article is just a hatchet job directed at the unions and GHPA. It totally failed to address the issues at stake while apportioning undefined "parochial interests" to the agitators. Pathetic rubbish intended to tarnish unsuspecting people with good intentions!
The issue is about implementing the Chris Ackummey Report, which recommended placing the PSC under GPHA management. For that reason, the GHPA was made to pay off the Malaysians about $3m, in preparation for the take over of the management. Then in stepped this Tullow deal, which no one is saying is bad to Ghana and PSC shouldn't execute it. It must!
Now, what is not clear and is causing agitation is whether the Management of PSC will be handed over to Tullow under the agreement for the period that they are building their FPSO or not. This can seriously impact on what happens at the shipyard and to the country. It is GHPA which has paid off the Malaysians and whose money is at stake. It has its own objectives for getting involved far beyond one single project, which must not be allowed to overshadow those other objectives to the detriment of Ghana.
Tullow can still build its FPSO at the PSC under GPHA management. Special arrangements can be made for that, with a sub-committee responsible for everything. We have observed that successive govts have been negotiating atrocious agreements with these mining coys for whatever bribes they secretly received and we demand that govt clarify issues NOW INSTEAD OF REMAINING SILENT! We have just read how Ghana is losing big time because the current FPSO hasn't been placed under GHPA management.

The writer seems to be very ignorant in may ways. read the history of Tema Shipyard and you would appreciate that for many years , the workers you are describing as having parochial interest fought the Malaysians to protect national interest. Where were you when foreigners looted the company . Do you know that Tullow says that they are only building a platform for producing some parts of the FPSO for only two years. What happens beyond that? Is Tema Shipyard built by Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah only for producing parts of just one FPSO? I am a worker of Shipyard and I know that people like you are working for foreign interest.
