The Minister for Communications and Technology Felix Owusu Adjapong has asked Ghana Telecom (GT) board to take complaints of the general public seriously.

"I expect that GT, as the industry leader, plays its role in contributing to the socio-economic development of the country" he said.

He said there is the need for the general public to patronise GT's services and this require customer satisfaction.

Adjapong was launching GT's new advanced intelligent network services, in Accra last Tuesday. The three services introduced are, GT Pre-Paid Card service, Advanced Freephone Service and Premium Rate Service.

"This has been possible as a result of a lot of hard work," he said.

The GT Pre-paid card service is a prepaid calling facility which enables a telephone user to make a call from any Ghana Telecom fixed telephone and the consumption, charged to a card number. This card number is specifc to telephone line used in calling the dsetination party but will be deducted from the card.

They are available through the country from all GT retail outlets and come in different denominations of 15,000 25,000 ,50,000, 75,000 cdis respectively.

With this service, the calling card can used until its credit limit is reached. The credit on the Pre-paid card decreases at a faster or slower pace depending on the destination and duration of the call. The credit on the card is announced in minutes after the destination number has been dialled.

The Chairman of the GT board Nana Antwi Bosiako saikd the facility allows users to control their telephone budget, as the user can make calls anywhere on a GT fixed line. The card can also be used to make IDD calls.

In addition, the advanced freephone service allows the subscriber who wants to receive calls at his expense, to be allocated a special advanced freephone service number, which is a toll free service. The service is designed for use by corporate organizations that have products to sell. It is therefore recommended for use by corporate bodies who need to get customers to patronize their products.

Nana Antwi Bosiako further explained that callers to GT's advanced freephone srevices are not billed for the calls, the service

subscriber bears the cost. "The product helps build higher customer retention for corporate bodies, it is ideal for corporate image building as well as consilidating brand identity and gives the subscriber organisation a nationwide advantage," he said.

GT's premium rate service allows a subscriber to provide callers with value-added information. With this service, the caller is charged and billed for both the call and the information received. The premium rate service is targeted at developers of information or data centers who provide services like giving out information on airlines flight schedules ect.

Ghana telecom only serves as the provider of the network for use by the subscribers. However, the development of the product and updating of the data is the sole responsibility of the product owner.

The service is useful for Telemarketing, and its also beneficial for data and information inquiry centers.
