  Nursing is evolving, and Nurse Practitioners, who are advance nurses,specialised to assess their patients, request for and interprete lab investigations, prescribe treatment, carry out simple surgical procedure and refer their patients, as and when necessary; are being born out of the evolution process of nursing. As a result everybody who likes nursing must support the Nurse Practitioners and Bsc Nurse Practitioner programme being run by UDS. All nurses associations including nurses and midwife council must come out boldly to support Bsc Nurse Practitioner programme run in UDS

  As a nurse practitioner student, I will like to take this opportunity to encourage nurses out there especially the young ones to take advantage of this program in order to be able to provide a wide range of services to patients/clients with maximum flexibility. The Bsc Nurse practitioner program enriches one with knowledge that enables one to take patient's history, perform physical examination, ordering lab tests, diagnosing, treating and managing diseases, coordinating referrals, providing patient education and counseling to support healthy lifestyle behaviors etc. Take advantage of this program and change the lives of many. This is especially important looking at the acute shortage of primary healthcare providers. I encourage nurses out there to apply for the Bsc Nurse Practitioner program that is being run at UDS come next academic year. Nurse practitioners work in collaboration with other nurses, doctors, lab. scientists, pharmacists etc. irrespective of the setting for the overall well being of the patient/client.

  nps must stay united and focused in order to survive in the health care market. nmc must not allow specilising nurses out of the profession. nmc, wake up.
