SAINT LOUIS Secondary School, one of the most popular girls' schools in the country, at the weekend, enjoyed the benevolence of President John Agyekum Kufuor when he made a personal donation of ?20 million to the school.

It is meant for the improvement of infrastructure in the school. The president also granted a proposal by the school to put up a laboratory block and complete its dining hall project, He has also pledged to provide the school with a bus.

The occasion was the golden jubilee of the school. St Louis Secondary School, according to the headmistress, Mrs. Johanna Johnson, lacks adequate laboratory facilities, dormitories, classrooms and staff bungalows.

The President said it is the policy of the government to encourage all senior secondary schools to include information technology in their curriculum because, as he put it, "no education will be complete without the knowledge in computer or information technology."

The President noted that the economy could be transformed, if the country relied on education, adding that the type of curriculum for students should not be the narrow type but rather aim at the broader one that opens the minds and deepens the sense of responsibility of the individual, not only to himself but to society at large.

Turning to the students, the President urged them to be self-controlled and disciplined to prevent contracting HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy, as their good health and life are needed for the development of society.

"Do not jeopardize your future by giving in to immoral acts," the President advised.

Nana Bamfi Adomako, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the school, noted that the school can only accommodate less than 1,000 students currently because of inadequate facilities. He, therefore, appealed to the government, the GETfund, churches and the general public to support the school to increase its intake and offer better tuition in the ensuing years.

The headmistress stressed that the students are not only trained in academics but in religious studies and moral virtues as well.

Mrs. Johnson assured that the school would continue to excel in the SSS examinations and in sporting activities too.
