Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan has described President John Dramani Mahama’s appraisal of his ministers as ‘comical and deceitful’.
President Mahama on Tuesday started reviewing the performance of his ministers. The review is being done by a policy unit set up by the President at the Flagstaff House.
As at Tuesday, only two ministries - Education and Energy - have been assessed under the ongoing performance review contract for ministers and public officers.
Deputy Minister of Information Murtala Mohammed told the media that government will disclose to the public details of the exercise and its consequences..
President Mahama is expected to determine the fate of the various ministers in his government after the performance review exercise.
But speaking to the issue on Peacefm's ‘Kokrokoo’, Kwamena Duncan wondered how “a President who is under-performing” will appraise ‘other people’.
“This whole thing is a comical, deceitful, desperate gimmick to make it appear that they are doing something. It is a complete deception…you must have merit to see merit; you must be seen to be performing to enable you have the moral high ground to appraise others,” he told Kwami Sefa Kayi.
According to him, he would not have found the action of the President strange had he been ‘doing what he was expected to do as a President’.
However, “the person himself is not performing. You (President) have performed abysmally as president; then I will sleep and get up, and I am being told that the President is appraising his ministers; my goodness, what kind of appraisal? The bottom line is nothing is happening…”
