Katakyie, The NPP will win election and Rule Ghana till the end of time the day NPP die hards like yourself would understand the fact that the NPP is competing for a national elections and not competing for elections only in Kyebi and Kumasi.
Election is about numbers and above all things ppl would go where they feel most welcomed. Ask yourself how would you be able to vote for a party if you were a Northner, and northners were described as been dirty and uneducated as you wrote insulting them right after the elections? Hope you remember that article?
Some NPP members sound very educated but do not act like one, another one is that community teacher (animal) in NY, sometimes i wonder if he really wanted his uncle to become president. Because most of his writings are more destructive to Nana Addos ambitions than rather helping his dreams become a reality.

what a wonderful govt , we have all these compulsory fasting and holidays for these pepeni Muslims and its only now they remember we are predominately christian . no matter what we shall ban this menace Islam soon as they are a minority and in any normal country there would not be that much emphasis on Islamic holidays , gay rights or unbalance domination of minority ethnic / tribal groups in govt and govt institutions. we welcome ken agyapong as a leader and maybe if they are lucky nana addo may come in as his vice but personally i would prefer he takes an Akan radical nationalist as his vice since he himself is very liberal and moderate . Ghana belongs to the Akans and all those who dont want to be a part of it we would gladly save our money and give them their independence or autonomy .these pepeni/ayigbe fools we unhappy with prof eduboahen , kuffuor ,mills, nana addo and any Akan leader but when a new one arises the previous one who was considered inappropriate all of a sudden becomes more palatable . today these ndc idiots are all crying for alan cash and nana addo the moment they seen ken agyapong on the horizon coming in his full Akan glory. when ken is reject then perhaps a true hard core radical loyal to the akan cause will arise and then i will be appointed head of police or national security. then we shall see a change in the ratio , then 9 out of 10 convictions for various crimes of corruption and theft will be non Akans the rest will be those who treacherously betrayed us . we shall also see the exodus of the non Akans , the destruction of non Akan businesses and the general atmosphere and climate will be that all non Akans are criminals and should be shunned or denied and participation in crucial national affairs . yes we shall have our revenge and justice . no more free education for them , only for us . no more privatization of Akan resources to foreigners and those whose agenda is to undermine the Akan economy like we see with the gold industry and 10 billion every year leaving the country as we shall nationalize and redistribute to all our citizens. jj will meet the firing squad as he so rightly deserves . pepeni's father we hear was carrying toilet in nima before nkrumah made him a minister so we understand his intellectual deficiency and incompetence as his father couldnt give him love or buy him toys so he has because an envious , womanizing son of a bitch with sodomizing tendencies and greed beyond comprehension . then is coming soon as his days are numbered and will surely be held accountable for his non action in development and his deep seated corruption and evil soul .

Katakyie, if you write a thing like: "Nana Akufo-Addo arguably remains the most popular and experienced politician of our time", you are starting off from the wrong premises. But I guess you're being sarcastic since you know very well the statement applies only to NPP fanatics and not to the nation as a whole. NPP lost the last two elections precisely because of Akufo-Addo. The man is simply not salable to a majority of the Ghanaian electorate, many of whom are not NPP members or sympathizers. Not even the floating voters want him as President.
But you're right in concluding that the party must look beyond Akufo-Addo in the search for a winnable Presidential candidate. Akufo-Addo could be a good minister but not one capable of winning a presidential bid just as Kufuor was capable of winning the Presidency even though he was not a particularly good president!
The rest of your analysis seems to overlook some vital facts in Ghanaian electoral history. In Ghana, people simply do not vote for the party that is, on paper, the best. There are other sentiments involved in how MOST Ghanaians vote and these have nothing to do with which party has the best programs.
Anyway, Agyemang, thanks for writing correct, direct, simple and easy to follow grammar. Highly recommended for other ghanaweb writers. Just stop believing that Ghana's hopes are in one party (NPP) rather than in another (NDC). There's really not much to choose between either which are made up of the same corrupt Ghanaians!

Both parties have become corupt and they feed on partisanship of their followers to fleece the nation. Corruption, I will always assert, knows no party colours.
As to why the NPP LOST, yes and I mean lost, the last two elections, they reasons are numerous but I will suggest the party broaden its organization to cover the whole country. Winning two (2) out of ten regions despite the huge population of both regions, is not a sign of a national party. The NPP should be able to compete in all regions, something that, rather strangely, the NDC has been able to do, even when they were in opposition.

Okatakyie, your soul-searching piece makes a good attempt to diagnose the problems of the NPP. You have rightly identified key gaps between 'party and electoral rhetoric' and actual actions and behaviours especially from the party leadership which continues to affect the rank and file of the party, morale and hence the unity of the party.
You have rightly sought to raise the issue of party disunity, the "winner-takes-all mentality" which is pitching party members against each other and resulting in 'dirty linen being washed in the public'. Others have identified dishonesty, corruption and "stealing" among some of the party leaders too, and the situation is not getting better but rather worse.
You say that over the last 6 years, this party bickering, 'cack-stabbing' and internal 'fisticuffs' has carried on and a party that used to win up to six regions in "both parliamentary and presidentail elections is now only able to win two".
The fact is you are absolutely right and all this CONFUSION and LACK OF PROPER LEADERSHIP in your party is not lost on the electorate. For, why in this world would any serious electorate elect to put power in the hands of a disparate group of greedy, selfish party people who will go to any length to stab even their own 'mates' in the back' just for their own political and personal interests.
You have rightly stated that despite the 'apparent disadvantage' of the NDC leading up to the last elections, the NPP still did not manage to win the polls.
Having said all that, you started your article by saying that the party over the past 5 years has "undeservedly moved from being a party in power to a party in opposition"!!! Don't you think this particular mindset of yours is part of the problems your party is facing at the moment?
This whole mindset not to accept that anything that is happening to you is deserved smacks of a complete failure to accept that you have done wrong, are undeserving and therefore are suffering the consequences of your own errors and greed.
I like most parts of your article but you have let yourself and your readers down by trying to 'make the right diagnosis using the wrong history'. The 'symptoms' you gave do not match the 'signs' that you have picked up upon your own (in my opinion) detailed examination of the ills of your party.
My suggestion to you is to accept that the NPP's current position is not only deserved, but that if they continue to display the types of 'antics' that they have shown us thus far, and continue to fight among themselves, then they are more likely to lose the next major polls, not necessarily becuase the current governing party is doing a better job, but simply because the electorate are wise enough not to trust a party divided, in which members are accusing each other of massive corruption and thievery when they are not even the ruling party!!!
Please go back to your first paragraph and you will see exactly what I am talking about. I believe that pure objectivity is the best value that we should all eschew and labour to achieve at all times, even when and where it means telling ourselves we have messed ourselves up and deserve everything that we get.
If we fail to do that, then we will be behaving like the car owner whose license has expired and failing to renew it, steps on the road and in a hurry to get to an appointment, tries to beat the red light, crashes into someonele's car and 'taflatse' the other driver dies. The police are on hand and you can only begin to imagine the enormity of the task facing such a person when they know that the minimum they will have is a substantial JAIL TERM. I sincerely hope the NPP will not wish to put itself in that 'JAIL' by the Ghanaian electorate. You can start by arguing your case strongly in your party.

Katakyie, I will let you in to the NDC's secret weapon - CHRIS ATIM's PDC boys and girls. Do you know who Chris Atim is? He left the PNDC very early but did not take this concept away with him. The PNDC trained hundreds of them. They became the organizational base of the NDC. They are hiding in plain sight.
You see, your party called (and I think still calls them) rifraffs, no nothings and every other horrible word in the dictionary. Yes, that is the NDC's secret weapon. The best organizational group ever "invented" in our country since Kwame Nkrumah's varanda boys. While your party is in the cities speaking big english, these so-called rifraffs, are on the ground providing up to the minute and detailed information to NDC party headquarters - thanks to modern technology of cell phones, not the ones that your party leaders provided your operatives but without "credit" on them (Courtesy Dr Wereko Brobbey).
Please don't confuse them with the modern day "foot soldiers"
You see, the old PDC boys are still everywhere. You know some of them, others you don't.
The good news for NPP is that these cadres are growing old, and therefore are endangered species. The NDC is not replicating this strategy and that will be their undoing soon.
Elections are almost always won at the local level. Strengthen your local units and you stand a better chance.
The above is the main reason why the NDC does better even in the NPP strongholds.
When the NPP came to power, they tried to purge the system of all these elements, guess what, that brought them together despite the fact that most of them never liked Jerry Rawlings. They eventually returned to the NDC fold and are still there despite some grumblings.
Create your own local cadre core and you may success in the future.

Meery Christmas, Katakyie. In my view there is no mystery behind NPP's two elections defeats. The only mystery is the fact that, NPP refused to accept that they lost both elections and the belief that they were cheated by NDC in 2008 and NDC and EC in 2012. Because of this belief NPP failed to do any critical analysis of why they lost in 2008 despite the goodwill from the Kufuor era. Only Arthur Kennedy attempted a good post mortem but he was shot mid air and not much came out of his book by way lessons. The same is happening with regards to the 2012 defeat. After the presidential challenge at the SC, NPP has not taken some time to conduct any post mortem and the party is currently electing party leadership from local to national and it's most likely that a lot of the old guards would be retained.
You are right that the party should learn from Kufuor's victories but do not forget that history was on the side of Kufuor for a number of reasons. First, the electorate were fed up with Rawlings and the NDC. Again, in 2004 the electorate felt he deserved a second term in addition to the fear factor that, voting Attah Mills was a vote for Rawlings (not mentioning the division within NDC as a result of the Swedru Declaration). However, NPP should have won in 2008 on the achievements of Kufuor but lost to NDC. That is something NPP should have analysed and come out reliable reasons as to why they lost but failed to do on the wrong premise that NDC stole the elections.
I think you underestimated the voters Bawumia could attract. He could also attract the youth vote as well as women as a relatively young, handsome and successful Economist , in addition to those in academia and other professionals.
You also underestimated the sympathy vote that NDC or Mahama might have got from the untimely death of Mills but yes, you are absolutely right that Mills/Mahama performance was not a wining formula and NPP must look at themselves in the mirror and ask why they could not beat Mahama? Of course beating the incumbent is not always easy. Perhaps, the death of Mills also brought NDC factions together as well as of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings's failure to be on the ballot box.
There are various factors that led to NPP's defeat in 2012 but unless the party accepts that they were beaten, they will never find out why. Some of these included intemperate language such as "all be die", Agyapong suggestion of beating Gas and Ewes, etc and the fact that NDC were better able to use these effectively as propaganda tools.
NPP also put too much faith in forecast by foreign organisations. For example, in September a research report by DaMina Advisors claimed NPP will win by 53%. I challenged the basis of their conclusions in an article on Ghanaweb but some NPP readers attacked me as making propaganda for NDC. One such reason was the Konadu factor which I predicted that DaMina were wrong not consider the possibility that Konadu may not stand as a candidate. If NPP put too much hope on such unscientific predictions they were mistaken.
There is another problem that NPP must recognise and that is blaming the electorate. To me, the idea that the Ghanaian electorate made mistake/s by electing a particular party or candidate is an insult and unless NPP put a stop to such ridiculous idea, the party could be in opposition for longer than expected. Never fault the electorate for their choice. That is simply shifting the blame or refusal to accept responsibility for one's failures.
Katakyie, this article should have been posted earlier but still never too late. Unfortunately, with the current debate and in-fighting within the NPP, I doubt whether the post mortem will ever be done before the next general elections.

Was it not under JB Dankwah's own watch some chief was killed and hidden near some river or so?? And JB said in defence, they do cultural!! If Rawlings imposed the late Prof Mills at the Swedru declaration, do you have the wisdom and charm of both the candidate and the one imposing the candidate on the party??
Is it Sir John who would play that role?? If only your party will not disintegrate when you impose that Lilliputian and oldish war monger on the youthful expectation of the NPP!! Your canndidate is a non-winning expired (To quote Amakye) product whose time had passed long since!! NPP must do proper self introspection as Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Apraku and others including Wereko Brobbey for having lost and continue to lose the general elections, you cannot use the same oldish methods to recruit flagbearers who are not popular in the sense of the word and for which people will be willing to vote or cast their vote, and never ever dream of pink sheets!! It's not true for you Katakyie Kwame that your guys have the magic want to solve Ghanaian problems!! In your write up, you missed some serious academic and crucial points. Which economic miracle did the Kuffour's NPP provide??? To have good on paper social interventions which normally have long term effect on the economy cannot be said to be an economic achievement!! For the first time when NPP hurriedly put the country into HIPIC, and the country's total debts or a very significant part were written off, what brain work was it you want to harp on??? Was it a rocket science or any high mathematical precision that the NPP introduced?? Where do the NPP members attend their school??? You saw the way Tsatsu, an NDC man harassed your so-called nuemrous lawyers??? Do you only have economic brains in the NPP and not brains on jurisprudence??
The method NPP, an offshoot of the barbaric Mate Meho executionist and bomb throwers under the UP cannot be said to be any good and enviable examples of your party anyway!! Without any malice, when you put Alan Kyeremanteng alias Alan Cash and the odikro war monger "all die be die" "y3n akanfuo" "at all cost" and other tribal virtuperations, which goes to the hearts of people how insensitive some NPP people are, God in His Infinite wisdom cannot allow His citizens to perish!! Why don't you peiople do peoper analysis and tell Arthur Kennedy that this is what you peiople have found out as being the cause of your permanent stay in the political wilderness!! Good luck if you continue to embelish the truth and not change the perception of the Akan party description, you will as a party stay in the political bush for a long time to come!! Period!! Truth must be told!! You all try the third time with Nana and you will all weep!!!!!!!! People can be popular for the bad reasons!! It's not an easily measured variable, OK!! Popularity I mean!!
