‘Low patronage after Xmas’

Market women in Sunyani and Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region have expressed dissatisfaction with the low patronage of their items.

The traders said they have enough goods in their shops after the presently.

Maame Boakyewaah, a trader at Techiman, who spoke to BUSINESS GUIDE said, “We went for bank loans to buy these items to sell during the Christmas season but the items are still here. We do not know how to pay back the loans and our children’s school fees have to be paid with the re-opening of schools.

She called on the banks to give them more time to pay back the loans.

At Sunyani, the women were unhappy with attempts by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly (SMA) to increase levies from GH30p to GH50p in spite of the low sales they recorded during Christmas.

They have pleaded with the assembly to maintain the levy since patronage was low.

The market women also complained about the absence of toilet facilities at the market, which forces them to walk to attend nature’s call.

They also appealed to the Assembly to enhance security at the market.
