A Techiman-based businessman has urged the unemployed, especially the youth to embark on cashew cultivation to improve upon their livelihoods.

Mr Tony Asare, Managing Director of Rastony Cashew Trading Enterprise at Techiman gave the advice at a meeting with some cashew farmers last Sunday at Kranka in the Nkoranza North-District of Brong-Ahafo Region.

The meeting was to educate the farmers’ on quality preparation of the commodity because there is available and ready market for it. Mr Asare stressed the need for traditional rulers and land-owners to release enough lands to the youth to go into agriculture as a move to address the problem of youth unemployment in the country.

He entreated the farmers to dry the cashew seeds properly before sending them to the market, since without proper drying, the nuts would go bad and this would affect its market value.

Mr Asare announced that his company offered credit facilities such as providing farmers with weedicides and pesticides to enable them to manage their farms for increased productivity.

Mr Emmanuel Asante Pedi, Purchasing Clerk of the company at Kranka praised the Director for visiting the farmers to share ideas with them and called on the farmers to remain faithful in doing business with the company.
