Madison Celebrates Ghana’s 57th Independence

The President of the Ghana Association of Madison(GhAMa), Richardson Addai-Mununkum has urged Ghanaians home and abroad to renew their commitments towards advancing the course of Ghana. This was contained in an anniversary address he delivered during a celebration of Ghana’s 57th Independence anniversary in Madison WI, USA over the weekend.

The event which was organized by the Ghana Association of Madison (GhAMa) enjoyed a huge patronage of the entire African & Caribbean communities of the Madison area who continue to see Ghana as the leader in the political and economic emancipation of the African continent.

Mr. Addai-Mununkum also called for support for the Black Stars of Ghana as they take on USA at the 2014 world cup in Brazil. He invited Americans to watch the game with Ghanaians in Madison and hope they can take the third time defeat that awaits them in good faith.

Special guest for the night was Sophia Friendson-Ridenour, a doctoral candidate of University of Wisconsin-Madison, who has been involved in mobilizing volunteers and support of various kinds to help health and educational sectors of Ghana. She was full of praise for Ghanaians for our warm hospitality and urged Ghanaians abroad to continue to make the needed impact at home.

Awards were given to deserving members of the community: Mr. Ernest Tetteh and Mr. Kweku Brewoo, as well as two former members of the Board of Directors of GhAMa –Mr. Edward Sackey and Dr. Rosemond Salia.

From the colorful display of African fashion, sumptuous meals, cultural performance and great music, attendees had a great time and members can’t wait for another opportunity to get together.
