I think this is childish. What is wrong with Africans. Are you trying to say if anyone contest Akufo Addo that person is doing anything wrong? Do you guys or Nana Addo understand democracy? The fact that Nana Addo has run twice and lost couple with his age if he were a good politician or maybe if Ghana is like US where failed presidential candidates refuses to run until they win then Nana is the one who should consider not running. Anyway Ghana is a third world, it is a banana republic so you run till you win or maybe die. Why is it that only in Africa do people become enemies when they compete for a position? When will these politicians grow up and learn to understand that if one competes for a position that person is not an enemy but trying to serve his or her country like the other. I don't care who wins but it will be suicidal if Nana goes unopposed.

Here the NPP goes again with this Nana hype. The party does not get it -- Nana Addo has a lot of baggage and has passed his "sell by date". Granted that it seems that Ghanaians are ready for a change due to the non performance of NDC it would be smart to put Bawumia on top of the ticket. Alan is definitely not a strong person to lead the country especially in the state we are in; it would be like another Mahama leading the country – nice guys but empty suits.
If the Democrats had made the declaration of no one standing up against Hillary, then there would not have been Barack Obama. Let the process work itself out, that is how democracy works and that is how you find the best man/woman. NPP has a lot of bright leaders let them all contest – this nonsense of it is this or that person’s turn has not helped the party and may end in another loss for the party.
Obviously, the writer is alluding to Nana’s age as a factor in 2020, so why does he not think that could be a problem in 2016. NPP needs to learn from NDC’s strategy if they want to win elections; putting Bawumia at the bottom of the ticket has not helped with the Northern votes, so why continue to do it at all then? They might as well pick someone from the swing states to put at the bottom, where it is likely to swing in their favor.
NPP needs to equalize NDC by putting Bawumia, a young, intelligent and feisty Northerner at the top of the ticket. As far as the bottom they need to find someone likeable from the swing regions – Western, Central, Brong Ahafo to energize that region. All NPP needs is to win one of the swing regions and they would win. I did not mention Accra because as it is now, there are enough non Gas in the region that it could be easily tipped if a non-Akan person is put on the top.
It does seem like NPP needs a strategist to help them because they are killing themselves with this nonsense of my turn, your turn nonsense.

Then why has he lost twice? It is not about corruption because we know Ghanaians don't care if the person is corrupt. Have you heard NPP folks defend his alleged drug use, his educational background/certificates, his “playboy” image, his “y3n Akanfo” comment and the seemingly distrust for him. The items listed may not be a big deal for die hard NPP members but may cause the lukewarm NPP members and floating voters to lose the enthusiasm to go vote. By the way, it does seem like we Ghanaians look at political parties and democracy like we view chieftaincy. It is his/her turn attitude – that is not how democracy works.
I have no doubt that if Nana is ever elected, he would be a good president but the problem is he may not ever get there due to the above, the strength of incumbency, and money that NDC has amassed that would be thrown to the voters. Putting someone like Bawumia in, sort of levels the playing field a bit and may even convince the non Akans that NPP is serious and all inclusive.

You're missing the most important issue.... that Nana Addo can't win the presidency against Mahama or Nana Konadu. The floating voters don't feel him. Yes, he's the most popular NPP candidate now, but he can't win the presidency. That's why the delegates are going for Alan now. All those delegates singing Nana Addo's praises are "hypocrites". They will not vote for him as a flag-bearer. And I'll give you a sign......if Sir John and Jake win their offices again then Nana "may" win the flagbearership. If these offices go to others then it'll be a big disgrace for Nana to contest. The good thing is Nana is too wise and knows all these "fake" praise- singers. That is why he is not going to run again, and keep his STATEMANSHIP intact. I just wish he could support an ALAN/BAWUMIA ticket. Alan may lose to Nana Addo, but can beat Mahama hands down! my 3 cents!

Mr Osei, I totally disagree with your analysis about Alan Cash chance for 2016 if given the mandate to lead NPP.
I am a floating voter and does not support NPP or NDC but my personal view is that, Nana Addo has passed his sell out date. NDC will rather be happy if NPP select Nana Addo for 2016 because it will be easy for them to do propaganda with Nana Addo`s age, will make Nana Addo ``message-less`` for 2016 by hijacking his free SHS policy which they were against in 2012.
Nana Addo will be cool chop for Pres. Mahama because he has already defeated him with just and only four months.
NPP will be better served for 2016 if they go with Dr Bawuamia or Alan Cash. I prefer Alan Cash because of his gentleness but the way Dr Bawumia performed at the NPP petition and been accepted by NPP supporters, NPP should go with Bawuamia and to unite the party make Alan Cash his running mate, and also remove NDC propaganda of NPP as Akan Party.
OR if Dr Bawumia and Alan Cash cannot decide who to lead, should go by what Kofi Jumah proposed sometime past for election between the two to elect the leader, and the loser to be the running mate.
Nana Addo will fail again if he contest 2016.

Now tell me,who told you that Nana Addo can beat NDC?Be objective my friend,it doesn't matter who leads NPP in 2016 but the question is "who can beat NDC?NPP should look for a strategic presidential candidate who can recapture the 4 swing regions to win the next general elections. This has nothing to do with Nana or Alan but who is capable to break the NDC election machine.Mind you,NDC has 4 strong holds,Volta and the 3 Northern regions.NPP has only 2 strong holds, the Ashanti and Eastern regions. In 2000 and 2004,KUffour was able to capture all the 4 swing regions,Greater Accra,Central,Western and Brong Ahafo regions, that means 6 regions voted for him to secure the presidency and the parliamentary seats. When Nana Addo led NPP in 2008 he lost all the swing regions to NDC and repated the same mistake in 2012.Let me make it clear to you that Nana Addo and NPP lost both elections because of ineffective campaign strategy which was too easy for NDC to neutralise.Nana Addo did not review his ineffective strategy and went to court demending the Supreme Court to overturn the official results for him to become president. The Supreme Court judges dismissed his petition because it was fraudulent,no credible evidence of rigging whatsoever. As for me,this is complete humiliation. The agony here is that even if Nana Addo wins the next general elections,NDC has every right to refuse the results and put Ghana in unnecessary high tensons and anxiety. If he loses again,he will definately refuse the results and put Ghana under avoidable tensions and anxiety, what a paradox? Is that what NPP wants for Ghana?Thank you.

Has the NPP carried out an inquiry into why since 2008, under Nana Addo, they have been hemmed in to just 2 reqions by the NDC? I doubt it. If anything of the sort was done it will shed light on the direction the party should take. Sadly, however, there seems to be a messiah complex emerging in the NPP. It is all about one person. i once posted that when the CPP came to power in its early days, you heard about Nkrumah, Gbedemah, Quaidoo, Ako Adjei etc. These were the giants of that once great party and they drove it forward.
By about 1961 the names were dropping off and all we heard was Nkrumah, Nkrumah and nothing else. The CPP had now become a private fiefdom of Kwame Nkrumah. See how it has collapsed
The NPP is going this way at top speed. There is no talk about organization, logistics, strategies the acceptability of Nana or Alan to the key regions - there is absolutely nothing. The party is heading for another defeat.

Mr Osei, I do disagree with your piece. Whatever your arguments for Nana Akufo-Addo as your ideal choice for NPP, it is really important that Mr Alan Kyeremanten and other potential leadership candidates are not discouraged from standing against Nana Akufo-Addo.
Whatever the fate of Alan, should he stand against Nana, he's not going to fall under the bus! Alan has leadership aspirations, and in a bid to sell himself to NPP supporters and voters as a man capable of leading the NPP and Ghana, he has to obviously stand for the party leadership election. Alan may have 'messed up' in the past, but he still remains a potential leadership candidate likely to attract floating voters than Nana Akufo-Addo.
By pushing for Nana Akufo-Addo's sole candidacy based on his popularity within NPP while overlooking and ruling out other 'strategic assets' of the party, this has the potential for disastrous consequences for NPP. NPP is repeating the mistakes of the past.

I concur with your point of allowing others to contest including Alan but I still think Alan is not going to be a good president if ever elected. He is a very nice guy but not a strong leader.

This paranoid attempt to talk or intimidate Alan out of contesting for the NPP flag-bearer ship race is an affront to the NPP constitution and won't work
