Former Member of Parliament for Asokwa constituency, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has called on Parliament to, as a matter of urgency, institute a Committee charged with an oversight responsibility over the operations of the National Security setup.

Contributing to a panel discussion programme on UTV in Accra, Kofi Jumah told host of the morning show "Adekye Nsroma" Tweneboah Koduah that it is about time Members of Parliament considered setting up an "Oversight Committee" to monitor the affairs of National Security.

He argued that the Security apparatus in Ghana needs to be redefined and also properly upgraded.

According to him, the "Oversight" Committee would help revamp Security in the country.

He explained that providing security for Ghanaians should not be monopolized by the National Security, but rather the Committee which would ensure that the personnel account for their actions.

He noted with caution the inability of the nation to hold the National Security accountable to Ghanaians whenever they execute their duties and so, called on the country's leaders to "sit down and analyze the issues, and define it properly.

“…We need to take a look at our National Security setup under the present fourth Republican constitution. It is very important,” he stressed.
