Sampson Acquah Nubanea, was yesterday sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court to seven years in imprisonment in hard labour for conspiring with three others to steal an amount of ?452,227,828 million, and items belonging to his employer, Madam Grace Larbi, Manageress of Unidan Enterprise at Agona Swedru in the Central Region.
Two of accused persons, Major Rudolph Smart Abbey and Thomas Okyere are already serving a sentence of 6 years imprisonment in hard labour, whilst Kofi Arthur is at large.
Giving the facts of the story, the Prosecutor, Superintendent Patrick A. Sarpong said, the accused Sampson Acquah Nubanea, was the Sales Manager who was in charge of all finances as he was responsible for supplying customers with drinks.
The accused and the other persons were responsible for keeping cash from sales and putting it nto the account of the complainant.
He said in September 1998, the complainant issued cheques for the payment of drinks bought from Guinness Ghana Limited but the cheques bounced.
The complainant therefore ordered for auditing of the books of the accused and the three others and the report revealed that an amount of ?452,227,828 had been embezzled, and some Guinness and Malta Guinness with empty crates and bottles stolen.
The case was reported to the police and the two people were arrested but the accused bolted. The police on the 18th July, 2002 traced him to Kumasi and was subsequently arrested and charged.
Sampson Acquah Nubanea was charged with conspiracy to commit crime and pleaded guilty.
