THE Ministries of Road and Transport and Energy in consultation with the Ghana Road Transport Co-ordinating Council (GRTCC) has concluded arrangements on fares to be charged for the various types of services including long distance travels, taxis and trotros.
A statement issued in Accra yesterday and jointly signed by Mr Kojo Adom Moses, Chairman of GRTCC, Mr Charles Ankomah, General Secretary of the GPRTU, Nana Danso Agyeman, 1st Vice-chairman of PROTOA and Mr E. O. Ashley, President, Ghana Co-operative Transport, said at a meeting earlier in the day, the parties considered the removal of distortions in fares on some of the routes to serve as guidelines for dealing with all such distortions in the system.
The meeting came to an agreement that a revision in fares should be an average of 40 per cent.
?The ministries and the GRTCC further urged the unions to liaise with their regional unions and district assemblies to work out the various fares for their respective areas based on the 40 per cent average,? it said.
It also asked transporters to abide by the increases.
